WHAT IS APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION?
Apostolic Succession is tracing back the Ante Nicene Fathers back to the 12 apostles. They preserved the apostolic seeds and held to the traditions of the apostles. The traditions from the apostle were how the Apostles expounded on scripture and revealed the many mysteries in the Torah, the Prophets, and the Gospels. The true tradition came from keeping the same teachings, and understanding. Whenever they came across another who proclaimed to be a Christian, they asked what church they went because from there they would be able to tell if that was a true church that carried the teachings and traditions of the apostles, not from a heretical school or church. It was so important Paul instructs us in 2 Thessalonians 2:15 and 3:6, that Paul instructs the church to hold to traditions which he either passed in the epistles (which we have in our bibles) or by word (the tradition being taught orally which was carried by their spiritual sons. Paul goes on to say that anyone who doesn’t have the same tradition from the Apostles, that we were to withdraw ourselves from them. Understanding the succession of who carried the traditions of the Apostles is imperative to say the least.
